Ramping up the war against P2W

Nonay is ramping up the war against pay-to-win networks enticing children, teenagers and gamers into buying digital goods through 'FOMO' or 'Fear of Missing Out' appearances and goods that increase opportunities for paying players upon purchase.

Nonay is ramping up the war against pay-to-win networks enticing children, teenagers and gamers into buying digital goods through 'FOMO' or 'Fear of Missing Out' appearances and goods that increase opportunities for paying players upon purchase.

How is Nonay Doing This?

Nonay, using its own gaming services (Method Gaming & Nonay Games), is fighting against these opportunities by offering stakeholder-like interactions with community leaders assisting Nonay in this fight. Up to £2,000+ ($2,695.80+ USD) was given to communities within the Method Gaming branch to help counteract the enticing nature of enforcing a P2W and addictive digital goods structure.

How Do I Get Access to the Nonay P2W Fund

You can gain access to the Nonay P2W fund by being reached out to because your gaming network meets our requirements (yes, we do check for p2w mechanics and you may be asked to sign a contract to agree not to publish p2w content and we reserve the right to chargeback this amount should any agreement be violated). In return, a Nonay representative may ask for a portion of ownership in the network (similar to Garry's Mod Hub, a network we bought stakes in and eventually went on to buy full ownership in 2021).

But Why?

Okay think of it like this:

You're a child growing up in the digital era, seeing people rise faster than you in games makes your progress feel invalid or not worth it, this kills the passion for gaming for some users and even gives light to a new generation of players that give into P2W out of fear of missing out. It may not seem like a large issue, but its psychological effects are vast.

A 2021 meta-analysis by Garea and colleagues pooled 15 studies and found a small-to-moderate correlation between loot box spending and problem gambling symptoms, r = 0.26, rising to 0.37 after correcting for publication bias. A separate systematic review by Spicer and colleagues found a mean effect of r = 0.21

This goes to show that P2W mechanics not only raise a new generation of players that give into the greedy tactics of P2W-styled networks and studios, but also raises a new generation of people that suffer with gambling addictions. We may not be able to fight gambling, but as a group that specialises in the gaming community and tech, we can fight P2W.

Preventing Gambling Addictions in Children

The worry isn't that a child buys one loot box and becomes a gambler overnight. It's MUCH quieter than that. A generation is growing up and paying real money for a randomised outcome (sometimes even asking their parents or guardians to aid them in this, not understanding the affects). Drummond and Sauer warned that this makes games a ripe breeding ground for problem gambling among the younger generations, and the recipes for disaster are all there: adolescent brains wired for reward-seeking well before they're wired for restraint, rates of problem gambling already higher in this age group than among adults, and a documented spiral in which spending feeds the fear of missing out that drives more spending. What we don't have yet is the study that follows those children into their twenties. We're running the experiment on them and waiting for the results - a horrifying reality.
